Video: Sally Shapiro - "Love In July"

Jul 10, 09

A new single from Sally Shapiro will be out on Tuesday, July 14 digitally via Paper Bag Records, so for all of you who've been panting for anything at all new from the ice queen of Italo disco, well, there you go. "Love In July" is a summery song, which shouldn't surprise anyone once they find out that it was in fact written in the summer month last year. You're welcome. It's not like you haven't been peppered throughout the last few months with the lead track "Miracle" and it's wonderful remix from BULGARI, right? The new single's video clip is a touching visual story of a goldfish and a whale. Yup. You did just read that sentence. Shapiro's sophomore disc, My Guilty Pleasures, is out August 25.

Tracklist:

01 Love In July (album version)
02 Love In July (Parker Lewis remix)
03 Love In July (Le Prix remix)
04 Love In July (CFCF remix)
05 Love In July (Bostro Pesopeo remix)
06 Love In July (instrumental)

Taking a break right before their first-ever appearance in San Francisco (a show during the Noise Pop '09 festival), Dent May And His Magnificent Ukulele stopped in on the local Mexican joint Tacqueria Cancun to play a rousing version of "Oh, Paris" to about three customers, the restaurant's staff and an altogether too busy delivery man as part of a new segment from Yours Truly called "Banditos", the red, white and blue counterpart to La Blogotheque. Video: Peter Doherty - "Broken Love Song"

Jul 01, 09

Being the nation's finest troubled laureate has its up-ends, as Peter Doherty is learning with the release of his debut solo album, Grace/Wastelands, a disc which pairs the man many loathe and love with various pop geniuses, from Blur's Graham Coxon to Dot Allison to Doherty's Babyshambles mates. The disc, out on Parlophone, has its second single seeing release at the end of this month. But "Broken Love Song" already has a video, though, a grayscale-only rainy day love lament like much of the content of Doherty's mind creates. It's distinctive, to say the least. "Broken Love Song" is out July 27 b/w "Ballad Of Grimaldi".

Video: Casiokids - "Finn Bikkjen!"

Jun 30, 09

The new single from Bergen, Norway's Casiokids, a group that we've lost our shit to a few times before, is a delightfully sharp and simple song called "Finn Bikkjen!" and the guys just shot a video for the track, a clip that was shot sometime around the Hove Festival which finds them performing their lo-fi synth-and-drum-track pop diddy in the confines of a hot air balloon, with a helpful visual of papier-mâché bobble heads. The single release for "Finn Bikkjen!" drops via the Moshi Moshi singles club on August 3.

Video: Douglas Armour - "Flushed & Flamelike, Themselves"

Jun 25, 09

Completely invigorating, engrossing and 110% visually stunning, the video for the new single from LA's melodramatic pop genius Douglas Armour, "Flushed & Flamelike, Themselves" was produced and directed for the first time ever by the guiding light of Daft Arts (they of the space robot set) and is the most compelling slow-motion "keep-on-headbanging-in-the-natural-world"-themed, pleasantly melancholic clip you're likely to see this year/decade/eon. Armour, an artist that makes his home amongst the laid-back and visceral set gets the proper treatment for his new single from the fuzzy bliss of his 2008 effort, The Light Of A Golden Day, The Arms Of The Night.

Video: Dan Deacon talks to Karmaloop

Jun 23, 09

In a just-released video from the kids at Karmaloop, electronic wizard man-child Dan Deacon talked (in as low a volume as possible) to Redd Foxxx about such meaningful things as socks with weed leaves on them, being in charge of Whartscape, a game where you imagine people crying in the shower and the not-so-believable influences of Vampire Weekend (FYI, it has nothing to do with western classical music or the music of Africa). Pretty funny, if you don't mind adjusting your volume switches on-the-fly or watching something get weirder and weirder as the minutes go by.

Video: Amazing Baby - "Headdress (live and acoustic at Heather's)"

Jun 23, 09

With the release of Amazing Baby's debut record Rewild today, it's only fitting that we'd give you an opportunity to truly appreciate these dudes for what they are: a band that's full of heart, promise, trust and zero restraint when it comes to making strides at taking over the pop world. That's all wrapped up in the above video, an acoustic take of the Rewild track "Headdress", shot inside the band's hometown haunt, Heather's bar in New York City. Enjoy the video and break free from the confines of domesticity with Rewild, out on iTunes for only $5.99.

Video: Pharoahe Monch - "Simon Says (live at the Brooklyn Hip Hop festival)"

Jun 21, 09

This past weekend's Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival featured a litany of great artists rocking the bass and the crowds at the Empire Fulton Ferry state park in Dumbo, including the inimitable Pharoahe Monch. This video, shot from way back in the crowd pit shows Monch's track "Simon Says", which turned out to be his final song due to time constraints and whatnot. But just look at the crowd in the tent guys. Insanity. Thanks to videographer B Conscious for the clip.

Video: Old Money - "Teacher's Pet"

Jun 19, 09

Old Money are back, and for the first time, they're coming correct with a video, a visual AND aural representation of their brand of classic hip hop sounds and no frills city life attitudes. The innuendos are less than inconspicuous in the song and the video itself is as lo-fi as you can get. Any track with lines like "I ate a cinnabun/ she played with my egg beater" or "My teacher got me harder than Calculus" is instantly way better than it could have been without it. Not to mention the fact that "Teacher's Pet"'s setting all happens to be filmed at a reserved table that looks familiarly like any dancehall we've all been to a ton of times, popping bottles and dropping bassline. The video also has nearly a minute of extra footage at its tail end of the dudes performing to a huge crowd at a tour stop in Konrad's hometown of Vancouver, BC.

Video: All Leather - "Live in Tempe, Arizona"

Jun 18, 09

We're not going to lie: we love pretty much without question everything that San Diego god Justin Pearson has ever been/will ever be involved in. From Some Girls and Swing Kids to The Locust, Holy Molar and dozens of other grinding, shrieking noise rock bands. So when we'd heard of this new project he's fronting called All Leather (somehow signed to Dim Mak and not his own imprint, Three One G) and saw this video of their live show from a gig in Tempe, Arizona, we sort of shit ourselves in happiness. Not to mention the fact that the bill was shared with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, whose Nick Zinner also played guitar in a Pearson band, Head Wound City. What you get is as straightforward an approach to rock 'n' roll as possible, with zero pretense or posturing and just sheer limitless passion and force. The debut EP from All Leather, Hung Like A Horse, drops on July 7.
